Become a Member
- TWICS membership is dependent upon you/your agency subscribing to our statement of aims and objectives, and to the values of Community Development Work (CDW) as defined by the National Occupational Standards (detailed below).
Membership is subject to on-going approval from the TWICS Project Committee. Applying for membership infers that you accept these aims and objectives and are prepared to sign up to them. - Membership lists will be reviewed on an annual basis. If your organisation needs more copies, please arrange for own copying and distribution.
- All TWICS members are entitled to attend and vote at the Annual General meeting of TWICS (copies of Terms of Reference are available on request).
National Occupational Standards In Community Development Work
1 The Key Purpose
The key purpose of community development work is collectively to bring about social change and justice, by working with communities to:
- Identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities
- Plan, organise and take action
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the action
all in ways which challenge oppression and tackle inequalities.
2 The Values of Community Development Work
Social Justice
Working toward a fairer society which respects civil and human rights and challenges oppression.
Self-determination
Individuals and groups have the right to identify shared issues and concerns as the starting point for collective action.
Working And Learning Together
Valuing and using the skills knowledge experience and diversity within communities to collectively bring about desired changes.
Sustainable Communities
Empowering communities to develop their independence and autonomy whilst making and maintaining links to the wider society.
Participation
Everyone has the right to fully participate in the decision making processes that affect their lives.
Reflective Practice
Effective community development is informed and enhanced through reflection on action.
